How Many Ways Can You Make A Dollar?

What a beautiful warm weekend we were blessed with loaded with plenty of sunshine. Miss Sky wasted no time grabbing her new bike. So many times this winter she had to walk past it just sitting there in the garage unable to ride it. She had finally learned how to ride a bike at the start of the year and now there is no keeping her from it. What a special time for her I have so many precious memories from childhood about bike riding. Riding my bike in the evenings alongside my dad while he jogged. Leaving him at the top of every hill only for him to catch back up so I could get a push to the top of the next one. Riding with my grandpa on the second seat of  his tandem bicycle to the bank and stopping by the Dolly Madison Bakery on the way home enjoying one of those individual apple pies. Yes ,I know Miss Sky is on her way to making some wonderful memories of her own.

This morning I made biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs for breakfast . Yesterday I made a big pot of rice to make meals with this week and today for lunch I made fried rice with the left over scrambled eggs.

After morning clean up we started this weeks circle.

We are continuing with lesson 13 on our penny whistle and transitioned into beanbag with the verse Puddles. We stomped out the 4 times tables forwards and backwards then played our clapping game putting the answers to the problems.

I started main lesson out with the poem Penny, Penny and Miss Sky copied each verse in her MLB. She made coin rubbings of each one next to the verse. We talked a little about money being a tool and how people  traded or bartered before money. We talked a little more about how it’s made and banks.I found it interesting bills are made form 25% linen and 75% cotton. Then we broke down the dollar bill and I explained $1 is equal to 100 cents and we went through how many of each coin was needed to make 100 cents. We will be coming up with different combinations all week seeing how many ways we can make a dollar with our coins.

Next I gave Miss Sky her spelling list for this week.

We went over each word and looked for hidden words in each one. Then we marched out the spelling and Miss Sky copied them twice in her MLB.

We wrapped up the day with Miss Sky reading the first 10 pages of Tecumseh by Jane Fleischer and I read the first 2 chapters of Om-kas-toe by Kenneth Thomasma.

Happy Monday
