Let The Sun Shine In

Oh yeah I am so loving this weather right now. Windows have been officially opened waking the house from its winter sleep. With temperatures in the 70’s we all have found ourselves a little distracted. It is a lot easier to have school when it is cold and gloomy out. This morning I made walnut chocolate chip banana muffins for breakfast, I also made smoked pork chops(from our beef farmer ,oh my goodness) with stuffing and set them in the oven to bake on low for today’s lunch. Then we speedy quick did chores and headed outside to start circle.

I set up a little obstacle course ,brought out the balance beam and we sang, skipped and played our penny whistles while soaking up the sun. We stomped out the 4 times tables and tossed the beanbag back and forth through our legs and any other silly way we could think of. We also tossed the beanbag while spelling out Miss Sky’s words both forwards and backwards. I was surprised to see how easily this came to Miss Sky but how hard it was for me. We both got stumped though while trying to spell president backwards. I let the Little’s play outside awhile longer then it was time for main lesson.

Yesterday I had Miss Sky see how much money her spelling words were worth using this chart. http://www.busyteacherscafe.com/worksheets/Spelling%20Activities.pdf  Then she counted out the correct change. For a little incentive this week I told Miss Sky she will get paid the amount of each word she gets right on her spelling test. Today we played paying the price from Family Math by Jean Kerr Stenmark. It listed a bunch of items and Miss Sky kept track of all the many ways she could pay for each one.

Since we already practiced spelling outside Miss Sky finished looking up the rest of this weeks vocabulary words.

She practiced copying sentences in cursive and wrapped up the day with her reading to page 36 of Tecumseh and I read chapters 5 & 6 of Om-Kas-Toe.

Wishing everyone many sunshiny days.
