Happy Summer Solstice

Well, summer is officially here. I have to say we had a great time at our summer solstice celebration. For all the local readers, Danielle is a mother who has two of the cutest blond hair and blue-eyed Littles. They live in a log cabin and share ten acres with chickens, cows, and sheep. The only down fall to the evening was my lack of photo taking of the night’s festivities.

The evening started with a tour of their farm where Miss Sky and Little Sis got to gather eggs

help feed their cows

and their sheep. After the tour, we went in and chowed down on all the wonderful foods all the families pitched in to bring. Before our meal, Danielle led us in signing the blessing over our meal. I really enjoyed this with a group and being able to see all the transitions in action and how well they worked with the children, it’s about as close to a Waldorf kindergarten I will probably get.

After our meal, we took the activities outside while The Little’s painted firefly lanterns and the grown-ups tried their hand at basket making. There was also mulberry picking and a sunflower spiral that was cut short due to a storm that blew in from nowhere.

Once we came back inside Danielle put on a lovely puppet show for all The Little’s, again singing a transition song gathering the children around the table. I can not say enough how easy she made this look, the room quieted down while Danielle told the story of how the fireflies got their lights. Then it was time to head home.

We couldn’t have had a better time welcoming in summer and I for one can not wait for her next celebration. Danielle has set her home up to be a place of gathering and would really like to start celebrating more festivals and meeting more local Waldorf families which I am very excited about.

Wishing everyone a wonderful summer.

So sad that we missed it! Sh’s flight was delayed and then the baby came down with a fever that just broke this afternoon. Sigh, teething not so fun!

Thanks for sharing the evening, and I hope to be at the next one!!!
