Do the Delicious Doughnut Dance

Yes in my household there is most definitely a dance when it comes to doughnuts because they are considered a very special treat. The Little’s have already made their request known. “Mommy since Mr. D has delicious doughnuts can we buy some this week?” I replied well we plan on making some for our baking project. “No Mommy we don’t want your doughnuts, we want Long’s.” Gee thanks. Normally I would take offense to this request but I have to agree with my children, Long’s bakery does make the best doughnuts in town. Okay in the whole state and we just so happen to pass by there on the way home from drama class. Hmm I may have to surprise them (Oh yeah doing the delicious doughnut dance now :)).

Well enough of me dancing , today it was off to the library in search of books to go along with this weeks letter D.

This week in Little Sis’s D book basket are the books:

The Dinosaurs Are Back and it’s all your fault Edward by Wendy Hartmann

Daddy Is A Doodlebug by Bruce Degen

Rub a Dub Dub Kin Eagle

Drummer Hoff by Barbara Emberley (Illustrated by her husband Ed Emberley)

How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food? Jane Yolen

How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night? ”                    ”

The Fuzzy Duckling    Jane Werner Watson

Make Way For The Ducklings by Robert McCloskey (Yes another favorite author )

The Ugly Duckling Hans Christian Anderson

This week in Miss Sky’s independent study book basket are books about ducks,Dalmatians, dolphins, dinosaurs, komodo dragons, and dragonflies.

Once home Miss Sky worked on her math and we started circle.

ABC Rock Greg and Steve (Above links can be found with post for the letter A)

Hey Diddle Diddle

Then into the schoolroom we went for this weeks lesson.

Little Sis and I worked on the D sound and she practiced making the letter in the air and on her chalkboard.

She is so cute going around the house saying duh duh dog, door, daddy. We are going to work on forming the word dad this week to help her understand how the letters and sounds make words. She is already starting to recognize the words in her letter books. I am going to start writing small words she knows down to make sight word cards to use later on.

Meanwhile Miss Sky worked on her spelling list while I helped Little Sis. This weeks animal is the Dingo and her words are:

Australia

pack

originated

continent

canids

communicate

scavenge

dominate

offspring

habitat

nomadic

ambush

carnivore

domestic

hybrid

pup

desert

nocturnal

We read The Dingo by Janice Koler-Matznick.

These are beautiful dogs and it is so hard to think of them as wild.

Miss Sky read Little Sis’s read aloud, and I read the first 2 chapters of The 101 Dalmatians by Dodie Smith. This is my most favorite Disney movie and I am really excited to read this with The Little’s. So far we are hooked. There are many differences from the movie, Cruella de Vil is married for one.

We finished up by making Valentines cards.Wishing everyone a happy Monday!
