Week(s) In The Life (Spring, Finally!)

So as big sis nicely mentioned yesterday about how glad I was to finally be posting regularly again Spring came. Okay I know it came weeks ago but like most of the east Spring here in Indy was cold with snow flurries. I guess what I am trying to say is it was finally warm enough to enjoy Spring. Outdoors here we come!

(garlic spouting)

New Papa projects and what is left of our wood pile(it was getting close).

Being that warm weather usually draws us all outdoors I think I am going to try a new way to post. Though we do not separate our topics into subjects as we learn (we just learn whatever the subject), it makes it WAY easier on me to separate them when writing (not to mention it saves me tons of time at the end of the year having everything already separated). So…

for language arts, Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8 (split over 2 weeks) which brought up a wonderful conversation on the difference between murder and kill.

Little Sis’s words of the week, monsoon, and harbor.

Sky’s root words of the week, tort, and pan.

A new journal for Little Sis

and Miss Sky finished Junie B. Dumb Bunny, Little Sis finished Jenny Goes To Sea, and I read Peter Cottontail by Thorton W. Burgess.

Which brings me to Science and Cosmos and black holes, the speed of light, photons, sound waves, phantom light, atoms, nucleus, protons and the periodic table of elements.

Social Studies, world history, thanks to Fiddler on the Roof leading us into Passover we watched the movies 10 Commandments and Prince of Egypt. This lead to learning the significance of the Seder plate.

Geography, Globe Trekker Egypt.

Thanks to Jenny Goes to Sea, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, and the Panama Canal.

Mathematics, jelly bean graphing, Mean, Median, Mode, and range.

I split a bag of jelly beans between the two of them, Little Sis graphed. Sky found the Mean, Median, Mode, Range, and she wrote ratios and fractions for each color (where she discovered 83 is a prime number). She estimated there was more purple than any other color in the bag and was right.

She did this with the week’s weather forecast and games have been brought back (pictured up above).

P.E./ Health, Walking Away the Pounds.

From the Kitchen,

flourless peanut butter cookies,

gluten and dairy free sugar cookies (Betty Crocker box),

and gluten and dairy free Chex mix.

I used Earth Balance, rice and corn Chex, and gluten-free pretzels.

Peace for the journey.

Looks like lots of learning goodness going on in your family! I haven’t been keeping up on blogging as much lately either, but if that just means that life is full and busy, that’s a good thing, I think 🙂 Yay for spring finally! Just when I had declared that it had arrived here, we got hit with about 7 inches of snow. Go figure : P

You are so right about life being full and busy. Yes a very good thing. We were lucky to just have the flurries. I like snow, I really do but I sure wouldn’t mind not seeing anymore until next winter. 🙂
