Goodbye Snow, Hello Sunshine

February 13, 2011

Well, could it be that the cold is finally coming to an end? Would it be wrong of me to hope so?

Today we happened to be blessed with the 50-degree weather and thought it a perfect time to go out for a winter hike, something we all agree we do not do enough of. It felt so good to get out and stretch our legs waking muscles that have been in hibernation all winter. The woods were full of reminders that a road trip is near. But by far the best part of a winter hike is being able to say goodbye to the snow and ice one last time (hopefully).

Oh King Winter as much as we enjoyed you so, I am sorry to say it is time for you to go!

Welcome Mrs. Thaw we are so glad you came. ūüôā

Round 1

February 2, 2011

Last night we were hit with part 1 of the winter storm, ice , ice , and more ice.Our whole back yard is a sheet of ice.Today we went out to investigate the storm, The Little’s couldn’t even make it up our hill.

We are getting hit with round 2 now.

Wishing many warm blessings !

Bike Riding, Apples, and Prayer

September 8, 2010

We have been very blessed this week with such beautiful weather. I think maybe the heat has finally passed us by. Our family wasted no time in heading out to take in all the sunshine we can before heading into autumn.

First stop, the apple orchard. I thought I would try something a little different this year and get our visit over with “before” we start school. This is Miss Sky’s favorite part of the year, her birthday is coming up and¬†her most favorite food is ready for picking. I thought maybe she would be less distracted if our apple picking was done. I guess only time will tell when we start school¬† next week.

Next stop , a trip to the park. Autumn is my favorite time of year to go for a walk. Besides the perfect weather there is SO much going on, So many things to see.

( A Guineafowl)

And we love to watch Mother Nature change colours right before our eyes.

We couldn’t ask for a more perfect day.

As I end this post I would like to ask a favor.  Tomorrow Papa is having out-patient surgery. Prayers and positive energy his way would be most welcome.

Thank You, Wishing everyone a very happy weekend !

Preserving The Harvest

August 16, 2010

This year we have been very¬†blessed with a wonderful harvest, so most of this weekend was spent preserving “summer” to pull out during those bleak and dreary days of winter.

It was a feast for the senses.

Starting with one of our favorites.

So far we have managed to put back 5 jars of salsa, 2 jars of tomato sauce, 3 more jars of cushaw squash, 4 loaves of zucchini bread, blueberry pancakes, and blueberry muffins.

How about you , how is your summer’s harvest coming along?

And The Journey Begins

August 8, 2010

It has been such an emotional roller coaster ride of a summer , filled with so many ups and downs leaving us all feeling a bit dizzy. We were more than ready for some R&R.

For our family that means one thing, it’s time to load up and¬†head for the woods.

It never fails that no matter what life throws our way ,Mother Nature is always there waiting to comfort us with her warm embrace.

For the time being we put a side all thoughts of one very soon¬†beginning their new journey 2,000 miles away. And we didn’t let anything stand in the way of what little time we have left.

Whatever differences that might have existed before are now forgotten.

It was just what our family needed as we prepare  for what might be awaiting us around the next bend.

Cushaw Pie In July

July 20, 2010

So our mystery plant (that we did not plant)¬†turned out to be the heirloom cushaw squash. It still amazes me how wonderful nature is, our neighbor last fall gave us a squash to try¬†and¬†we loved it. Since we compost that’s where I threw the seeds and skin after I roasted it. We till our compost in our garden every spring so¬†the seeds must have taken root in our garden.

We ¬†have harvested 3 from our garden so far¬†(sharing one with our neighbor ūüôā ), and¬†I wasted no time roasting these bad boys up.

¬†I managed to get 4 15 oz jars out of these and made bread with one of them this morning when the sound of a “Little” voice promptly put in her request for one of her most favorite foods.

Yes God is SO good !!!!

We have found something else growing in our garden we did not plant.

This years harvest has been full of surprises.

Did I mention God is good!!!

We received one more little  surprise over the weekend, they called Papa back to work.  He started back today.

Yes He’s¬†oh SO good !!! ūüôā

Summer School

July 2, 2010

Well with “school” officially out for the summer, what have¬†we been keeping¬†ourselves busy doing?

For starters we have a new Little around here that has been keeping everyone on their toes.

No¬†this little cutie¬†is not ours, we just get to watch her for the summer. Man it has been¬†awhile since I have had to worry about a baby. It is amazing how worn out I am at the end of the day and I have reinforcements :). Many hats off to you¬†Mama’s who are homeschooling while taking care of a baby.¬†

Papa and Miss Sky have been working on their building project.

Even though it is not what we had planned it sure has come in handy these last few nights.

We also found out there are bats in our area (yes) and spotted the big dipper.

Miss Sky is still measuring her sunflowers.

and we have a something growing in our garden we did not plant.

I know it’s in the squash family, I like surprises.

Lastly Miss Sky has taken up photography

I sure do like summer vacation :).

Wishing everyone a wonderful 4th of July.

Summer Has Landed

June 26, 2010

There are a few signs that prove to our family that summer has indeed come.

2. Music from cicadas

3. Strawberry picking

4.Sunflowers beginning to open

(above photo taken by Miss Sky)

5. And my most favorite food in the whole world

(fried green tomatoes) one of the main reasons we grow tomatoes.

Summer welcome !!!!!!!!!! We are so glad you are here.

Stormy Weather

June 22, 2010

Here lately thunderstorms have become part of our daily lives as we have had one pretty much every day for the last two weeks. Well, I guess the ground has had quite enough because our yard began to flood. Do you think that would stop my children from playing outdoors?

It just gives me more laundry to wash.

Wishing everyone a day free of storms, Peace
